Time was something easier to measure with a stopwatch on mobile phones, so I executed it right from the beningging with the french press and the aeropress. I never felt the need for anything further. However, if anyone is interested there are more options.
Levels of gearing up
- Level 0: Use hunch (Zen mode)
- Level 1: Mobile app (Minilal mode)
- Level 2: Stopwatch for coffee (Dedicated mode)
- Level 3: Integrated stopwatch on coffee scale (Tech mode)
What is my take?
I had decided not to buy a coffee scale with time yet, and I used to fancy having a dedicated stopwatch or a coffee scale. Now I use the mobile app for stopwatch whenever there is a need for consistency or brewing better. But most of the time I just use a hunch for the time for moka pot, czeve, pour over and aeropress. Once in a while if anything goes wrong with the brew, I go back to measuring time. The best part of not measuring time, is losing the sense of time in a poetical way. Lack of a stopwatch to measure makes a brewing experience relaxing and meditative, which is very important to me.
